The Story
Coastal Build Co. started in 2014 with one bloke, a ute, and a simple idea: build things properly and treat people fairly. Jake Morrison had spent over a decade working for other builders across the Northern Rivers and was fed up with the corner-cutting and poor communication that plagued the industry. He reckoned there was room for a company that did what it said it would, turned up when it promised, and stood behind its work.
Ten years on, we've grown from a one-man operation to a team of eight licensed builders, carpenters, and landscapers — but the philosophy hasn't changed. We take on a limited number of projects each year so Jake and the team can give every build the attention it deserves. No project managers who've never swung a hammer, no subcontractors we haven't worked with for years, no surprises on the final invoice.
We live and work in Byron Bay, and most of our work comes from word of mouth — a mate tells a mate, a happy client sends their neighbour around. That's the kind of business we want to run. When we hand over the keys, we want you to be stoked with the result and happy to put our name forward. That's the whole game, really.

Founder & Lead Builder
Jake Morrison has spent twenty years in the building trade, starting out as a carpenter's apprentice in Lismore at the age of seventeen. He earned his Certificate III in Carpentry and Joinery, then spent a decade working for some of the Northern Rivers' most respected builders before getting his full builder's licence. In 2014 he founded Coastal Build Co. in Byron Bay with a ute, a nail bag, and a commitment to doing things properly. A decade on, the company has grown to a team of eight, but Jake still picks up the tools on every project — he reckons you can't lead a building crew if you've forgotten what it's like to be on the tools. He's a licensed builder (NSW Licence #348221) and a member of the Housing Industry Association.
The Team

Project Manager
Mitch keeps every Coastal Build Co. project running on time and on budget. With twelve years in construction management across the Northern Rivers, he handles scheduling, trades coordination, and council certifications so you've always got one clear point of contact.
Lead Carpenter
Ryan is our master carpenter with fifteen years on the tools. From structural framing to fine finishing work, he's the bloke who makes sure every joint is tight and every line is straight. He trained under Jake and shares his obsession with doing things once and doing them right.
Landscape & Outdoor Specialist
Holly designs and builds our outdoor spaces — decks, pergolas, retaining walls, and pool landscaping. A qualified landscaper with a background in horticulture, she knows which plants and materials thrive in the salt air and coastal winds of Byron Bay.
